Term 1 Weeks 5 & 6

Monday of week 5 we didn't have to come to school. It was a wonderful break to spend with our families. However, we returned to school on Tuesday morning ready to have some fun and learn.

In Religion we learnt that God hears us pray everywhere no matter where we might be. We drew pictures to show the place where God might hear us pray.

In Maths we investigated Ten Facts. We looked at what number combinations make ten. We used counters, bears and unfix blocks to help us.

I found out that 7+3 =10

I found out that 5+5=10

I found out that 6+4=10

I found that 9+1=10 too.
We could then use our basic ten facts to help us with twenty facts. We had fun working it out in groups.

We also had lots of fun painting paper plates ready to make our starfish.

The most exciting part of Week 6 was our excursion on Monday to AQWA. We went down on the bus and it seemed to take a long time to get there. When we finally arrived we had recess and a run around. Mr W., Mrs L., and Mrs D, were running around with us. They were trying to catch us.

Then we met Miss S. She worked at AQWA and she told us all about the place and the displays we could walk around and see.

Then we got to go in and explore. We were broken into small groups. We saw many sea creatures from up and down the coast of Western Australia. It was so exciting.

We also enjoyed learning interesting information in the Curiosity Cabinet sessions.

Our excursion to AQWA was so much fun. Thank you to those parents who were our helpers for the day.

Term 1 Weeks 3 & 4

Wow we have had some busy days in the last two weeks. It has been lots of fun.

We have learnt all about Magic 'e' and how it changes short vowel sounds to make them long ones. We can also say that Magic 'e' makes a vowel say it's name instead of it's sound.

We made words that have the Magic 'e' in them out of plasticine.

We also made Magic 'e' words out of magnetic letters.

In Religion, we learnt about the beautiful world that God made for us. We drew pictures of our families enjoying God's beautiful world.

We learnt to count collections in tens. We also learnt to count in tens from any given number.

We were making anemones. They are sea creatures. They have soft tube shaped bodies and a mouth surrounded by tentacles. They use them to catch their food.

Some fish are able to live and hide in anemones because they have a slimy coating on their bodies. Clown fish are one kind of fish that can swim in the tentacles of an anemone.

We made our anemones out of plasticine. Some looked really funny.

We used 'think boards' to show different ways we can represent numbers.

We also used them to write number sentences and number stories.

We are proud of our country. We coloured in the Australian flag so that we can hang them in our room. We also learnt that the Union Jack is a small version of the English flag.

We were acting out the story of the Three Little Pigs. It was lots of fun and we all took turns to be the different characters.

We also played Magic 'e' Bingo. That was lots of fun especially when we could call out "bingo".

Learning with Ms D.

We had an incursion. It was called Wake Up and Read. It was a magic show. It was funny and the man was really good at magic. He made a coin disappear from one hand but the coin appeared in his other hand. He could also juggle really well. He also made a book float, it looked really cool.

The puppet show was funny.

We have been reading The Rainbow Fish. It is teaching us about friendship and how we should treat our friends.
